Using Google Calendars on your site
I've been using Google Calendars for some time now to stay more organized, but I just found something out today that might be very helpful to you all that want to be able to do more with an event calendar on your site.
I found that you can set up a calendar that you can embed into your site. You can view a sample one that I did here: http://www.creative-fabrics.co.uk/store/WsAncillary.asp?ID=28 I have added a couple of events to it just as samples. I know some of you have wanted to be able to use different colours, so when I saw this I thought it might work perfectly for that.
If you have an account with Google, then just go to their calendar section and sign in. If you don't have an account, it will give you that option. You can find the link to their calendars here:http://www.google.com/intl/en_uk/options/ I set up two calendars for Sales and Classes, and gave each a different colour.
Then, I clicked on Settings in the top right corner. Then click on the Calendars tab, and you will see a list of your calendars. Click on the title of one of them. Scroll down to where you see 'Embed this calendar'. I had to adjust the width so that it would fit on my page, and I also selected that I wanted the other calendar events to show too - so to do this, you need to click on the link to customize it first.
Once you do that, just copy the HTML code and go to create an ancillary page to use it on in your store. Paste in the code. If you find that the code is showing on the page, just go back into the ancillary page you created as if you are going to edit it. No need to do anything except to scroll down and hit the save button again. Refresh the page, and the calendar will show.
By being able to add this to an ancillary page, you will be able to add a message above the calendar too!
I hope this comes in handy for some of you!
